This method is referenced by two ARB asbestos airborne toxic control measures (for surfacing applications and for construction, grading, quarrying, and surface mining operations) that aim to limit public exposure to naturally-occurring asbestos. Please note that staff are now proposing changes to two additional areas: 1) field sampling in Method 435 and 2) changes to the two asbestos airborne toxic control measures (ATCMs) that will reflect changes to Method 435. At the June 10, 2008 workshop, staff will present more refined proposed changes to Method 435. These changes will also include preliminary ideas on modifications to the field sampling portion of the method. In all, the proposed changes are expected to greatly reduce inter-laboratory variability in the determination of asbestos content in rocks and soils and more accurately reflect any asbestos levels of concern in the field. In addition, staff will present how the two asbestos airborne ATCMs would change as a result of changes to Method 435. The workshop notice can be found at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/toxics/asbestos/tm435/workshops/wrkshp2.pdf Interested parties can follow activities related to this method modification process at the Test Method 435 homepage: http://www.arb.ca.gov/toxics/asbestos/tm435/tm435.htm You will receive another list serve notice when the workshop agenda is posted on the homepage (approximately one week prior to the workshop). The agenda will include conference calling instructions for those who want to participate but are unable to attend in person. If you have questions about the public workshop or the method modification process, please contact Rebecca Neumann at (916) 324-1145 or via email at rneumann@arb.ca.gov. Thank you.
