Dr. Jane C.S. Long Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Friday, July 15, 2011 10:00 – 11:30 am PDT Sierra Hearing Room, 2nd Floor, Cal/EPA Building 1001 I Street, Sacramento, California The report, released in May by the California Council on Science and Technology, examines what's needed for California to achieve the goal of the executive order from 2005 to reduce the state's emissions 80 percent below the 1990 level by 2050. Dr. Jane Long, co-chair of California’s Energy Future Committee, will give an overview of the report’s innovative methodology, and its basic finding: that the technology we need to get to the 60 percent mark is either in demonstration, or already in use – but that pushing on to a full 80 percent reduction in emissions will require significant levels of research, development, invention and innovation. A Q&A and panel discussion will follow the lecture, featuring Miriam John, the other co-chair of California’s Energy Future Committee, seven of the report’s lead authors, and a member of the report’s working committee including: • Jeffery Greenblatt, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory • Bryan Hannegan, Electric Power Research Institute • Nathan Lewis, California Institute of Technology • Burton Richter, Stanford University • Max Wei, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory • Chris Yang, University of California, Davis • Heather Youngs, University of California, Berkeley The announcement can be viewed at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/lectures/lectures.htm Members of the public can view the seminar over the internet. The survey package includes a cover letter, the survey forms, instructions for completion of the forms, and a confidential information submittal form. The survey package is available at the ARB’s Combined Heat and Power Systems webpage at http://www.arb.ca.gov/energy/chps/chps.htm If you have any comments or questions, please contact Dave Mehl, Energy Section Manager, at dmehl@arb.ca.gov or via telephone at (916) 323-1491; or Rosa Lopez, Air Resources Engineer, at rlopez@arb.ca.gov or via telephone at (916) 327-5978. Background: The California Air Resources Board (ARB) is the lead agency for implementing Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32), the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (Nùñez, Chapter 488, Statutes of 2006). As part of the mandates to reduce California's greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels, ARB staff has created a Scoping Plan and subsequent Appendices detailing possible methods of achieving the required emission reductions. One method is through the use of regulatory emission reduction measures. A part of the regulatory approach includes a substantial increase of combined heat and power (CHP) systems throughout the state. Additional information on ARB’s CHP efforts can be found at ARB’s CHP webpage at http://www.arb.ca.gov/energy/chps/background/background.htm ====================================================================== You are subscribed to the chps mailing list.
