Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 15:06:24 -0800 From: Steve Mara Subject: research Invitation to Subscribe to List Serve AB1173 Invitation to Subscribe to List Serve AB1173 Dear Interested Parties: This note is to inform you that the Air Resources Board is beginning work to develop a report to the Legislature on Indoor Air Quality as required by Assembly Bill 1173 (Keeley, 2002). AB 1173 requires the Air Resources Board to prepare a comprehensive report on indoor air pollution, including information on the health effects and sources of indoor pollutants; the effects of existing regulations and industry practices; and possible mitigation options for homes, schools and non-industrial workplaces. We have established a web page for this project to inform interested parties on our plans and progress developing the report. You can access the web page at http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/indoor/ab1173/ab1173.htm. The web page currently includes a summary of AB1173 requirements, a link to the complete bill, a tentative schedule for developing the report and receiving public input, and access to the listserv. If you would like to receive notification of updates on the AB 1173 implementation by email, you may subscribe to our AB1173 listserv at http://www.arb.ca.gov/listserv/listserv.htm. Should you have problems with subscribing, please contact Susan Lum at ab1173@listserv.arb.ca.gov, or by phone at (916) 445-0753. If this is your second notice we would like to apologize for the "extra" message. The Air Resources Board has just released the final report for the research study “Characterizing the Range of Children's Pollutant Exposure During School Bus Commutes”. Informally known as the Children's School Bus Exposure Study, this study was conducted to characterize the range of children's exposures to diesel vehicle-related pollutants and other vehicle pollutants during their commutes to school by diesel school buses. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of California Riverside and Los Angeles campuses, measured pollutant concentrations inside five conventional diesel school buses over actual school bus routes in Los Angeles. The study found that conventional diesel school buses had significantly higher on-board diesel related pollutant (DRP) concentrations than roadway pollutant concentrations alone would indicate. The final report, fact sheet and press release for the study can be found on our web site at: http://www.arb.ca.gov/research/schoolbus/schoolbus.htm Richard Bode Chief, Health and Exposure Assessment Branch Research Division CA Air Resources Board Fax: 916-322-4357 Work: 916-323-8413 ====================================================================== You are subscribed to the research mailing list.
