On Thursday, February 24, staff will present the results from two recent studies assessing exposure to traffic and its relationship to heart disease. The two studies being discussed will be: “Exposure to Traffic and Onset of Myocardial Infarction (MI)”, Peters et al., New England Journal of Medicine. 351:1721-1730, 2004; and “Particulate Matter Exposure in Cars is Associated with Cardiovascular Effects in Healthy Young Men”, Riediker et al., American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. The objective of this workshop is to provide personnel the needed background information, checklists and guidance associated with EPA methodologies involving stack tests for characterizing and quantifying traditional and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) emissions from industrial sources. Stack testing basics, EPA Reference Methods 1-29, and SW-846 methodology will be addressed. This course is geared towards environmental professionals with a general understanding of source testing who need to branch out into pollutant-specific HAPs sampling methods.
