Southern California Zero-Emission Vehicle Workshop Wednesday

-- The California Environmental Protection Agencyís Air Resources Board (ARB) will hold a public workshop Wednesday to discuss issues related to the zero-emission vehicle mandate. The Board reaffirmed the mandate at a September 8 meeting in Sacramento.

The ARBís ZEV program, adopted in 1990, mandates that 10 percent of new automobiles sold in California starting in 2003 must be zero emitting.

The Air Resources Board is a department of the California Environmental Protection Agency. ARB's mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering effects on the economy. The ARB oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health based air quality standards.
