Air Resources Supervisor I

Air Quality Planning and Science Division

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative individual to lead the Air Quality Analysis Section.  Section responsibilities include evaluating California's air quality progress made towards attaining air quality standards, on a regional as well as community level.  Section staff prepares the Weight of Evidence portions of State Implementation Plans (SIPs) for ozone; Infrastructure SIPs, including Interstate Transport SIPs for gaseous pollutants; and recommends area designations for federal and State ambient air quality standards.  Additionally, the Section develops federally mandated annual monitoring network plans and periodic network assessment plans.  Staff performs an ongoing evaluation of monitor siting issues.  Section staff will work with air districts and communities to optimize siting of community monitors.  The Section also has duties related to the maintenance, archiving and distribution and certification of ambient aerometric data collected on behalf of California's air quality management programs.

Air Resources Technician II

Monitoring and Laboratory Division

The Monitoring and Laboratory Division’s Northern Laboratory Branch (NLB) is seeking a motivated and qualified applicant to join the Sampling Handling (SH) Team within Laboratory Support Section (LSS).  LSS is responsible for supporting NLB's three analytical laboratory sections: Inorganic Laboratory Section, Organic Laboratory Section, and Special Analysis Section in a variety of ways.  The SH Team provides sample control and management support which includes sampling media inspection, preparation, and shipment to ambient air monitoring stations; receipt/inspection of consumer products and ambient air samples; chain-of-custody verification; and sample log-in to the Laboratory Information Management System database.  This position communicates with both field station operators and laboratory chemists on a daily basis.  This is a three-year old program that is still evolving which lends opportunities for SH Team members to be part of the building process.

The Measurement Assessment Research Section of the Monitoring and Laboratory Division is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Air Resources Technician II (ART II) to work in the development and deployment of a California Air Resources Board (CARB) portable roadside emission system, the Portable Emissions AcQuisition System (PEAQS).  Over 1 million heavy-duty diesel vehicles operate in California, and while CARB has adopted regulations to reduce HDDV emissions, PEAQS is one of the critical tools to effectively verify real-world emission reductions and ensure compliance with regulations. The successful candidate will assist within the PEAQS program in the following areas: design, plan, and coordinate the logistics of field testing; collect and record field data; measurement QA\QC of emissions and license plate image data; data summarization; and draft reports and presentations. Additionally, the ART II will also assist in the procurement of heavy-duty vehicles for chassis dynamometer and on-road testing as part of an ongoing Truck and Bus Surveillance Program; collect, organize, and handle filter samples for gravimetric and chemical analysis; and record and analyze vehicular emissions data. The ART II position is a permanent, intermittent position.
