We are seeking a resourceful and personable Office Technician (T) to carry out a variety of administrative functions within the Administrative Oversight Section (AOS), which provides administrative and clerical support to the Industrial Strategies Division.  The division has primary responsibility within the Air Resources Board for:  climate change, fuels, air toxics, energy, waste, and air district oversight.  The selected candidate will provide organizational, logistical and administrative support for one of five branches supported by AOS, and backup support for the Division Office and other branches as needed.

Air Resources Engineer

Air Quality Planning and Science Division

The On-Road Model Development Section within Air Quality Planning and Science Division is seeking a self-motivated and creative individual who is interested in working in a fast paced, highly technical and constantly evolving environment. The ideal candidate would have experience in freight transportation system, vehicle emissions certification and test procedures, on-road emission control technologies, techniques for estimating emissions from vehicle testing data and aware of recent findings regarding emissions of on-road heavy duty vehicles. Major projects include the development and refinement of the EMFAC on-road emissions inventory model for air quality and transportation planning, and new tools to estimate on-road emissions.  The section also plays a key role in development of on-road heavy duty mobile source regulations by providing technical support to regulatory divisions within CARB.

Staff Services Manager I

Administrative Services Division

Air Resources Engineer

Transportation and Toxics Division

The Freight Technology Section is looking for a detail oriented, highly motivated engineer to develop, review, and implement regulations and risk reduction strategies for toxic air contaminants (TACs), criteria pollutants, and greenhouse gases from diesel-fueled engines used in stationary, port, and freight applications.  The Section also evaluates applications for verification of diesel emission control strategies for engines operating in transport refrigeration units, stationary, marine, and some types of cargo handling equipment.  Duties will include evaluating technologies and costs, proposing regulatory concepts, drafting regulatory language and technical support documents, developing emissions testing plans, analyzing emissions data, and reporting findings to both internal and external audiences through briefings, technical conferences, and other written documents.

The Freight Transport Branch is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to participate on a team of technical and policy staff developing innovative and creative strategies for reducing air pollutant emissions from the freight transport system.  We are searching for an individual with technical expertise in freight-related technologies (especially technologies related to the development and use of zero and near-zero equipment), as well as technical expertise in California’s electrical grid, grid infrastructure, grid infrastructure challenges, and equipment mechanical challenges that may arise in transitioning to a zero emission based freight transport system.

California Air Resources Board’s (ARB) Research Division has an opening for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic researcher with proven expertise in air quality and emissions measurements and analysis to join the Emission and Exposure Research Section (EERS). The selected candidate will be responsible for initiating, designing, and conducting a variety of air pollution research studies, including air pollution source characterization studies and their impacts on regional and local air quality and personal exposures, as well as verification of GHG emissions inventory through source-based emissions research.

Monitoring and Laboratory Division

The Vapor Recovery Regulatory Development Section is responsible for developing rules for certifying and testing vapor recovery systems for gasoline marking operations (gas stations, bulk plants, and bulk terminals), and conducting special studies to quantify emissions and to identify new methods to further reduce emissions.  This is a unique opportunity for an individual interested in taking on high profile rulemaking assignments and being part of a highly skilled team which conducts field testing to support those rules.  The Air Pollution Specialist selected for this position will be the branch lead staff person for all aspects of the rulemaking process including preparing rulemaking documents, presenting proposals at workshops and public hearings, working closely with air districts, developing alternatives for management to consider, and conducting economic analysis.  The ideal candidate must have an extremely high work ethic, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, must be willing to work overtime and to travel, and must consistently exhibit a genuine desire to contribute to the success of this important program.
