The Freight Systems Section is looking for an experienced staff person to participate in a team developing innovative and creative strategies for reducing air pollutant emissions from the freight transport system.  Specifically, someone with technical expertise or interest in the potential for zero and near-zero emission freight equipment that can assist in developing new policies in relation to technology and associated infrastructure, while also helping process freight data and information.  Knowledge base should include a familiarity with technology types such as locomotives, heavy duty trucks, ocean going vessels, cargo handling equipment, and/or transport refrigeration units as well as an understanding for the technology duty cycle and infrastructure challenges associated with a transition towards zero emission equipment.

The Consumer Products Enforcement Section (CPES) in Sacramento has an opening for an enthusiastic Air Pollution Specialist to conduct a variety of activities related to development and advancement of air quality standards.  The Consumer Products Enforcement Section is responsible for enforcing ARB regulations designed to improve air quality by reducing emissions generated by (1) non-compliant chemically formulated and aerosol coating products, such as aerosol paints, paint thinners, cleaning compounds, polishes, personal care products, lawn and garden products, detergents, disinfectants, sanitizers, automotive specialty products, and solvents, (2) non-compliant composite wood products, such as plywood, particle board, and medium-density fiberboard, and other products that are made from these materials, including decorative wall coverings, cabinetry, subflooring, shelving, household and office furniture, children’s toys, and recreational vehicle interior components, and (3) non-compliant indoor air cleaning devices.  We are seeking a motivated, resourceful, and qualified Air Pollution Specialist to play an integral role in the development and implementation of new air quality enforcement programs such as the Chemically Formulated Products Program, the Composite Wood Products Program, and the Indoor Air Cleaning Device Program.  The position also requires close interaction and teamwork with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including; scientists, engineers, operators as well as industry and environmental organizations.

The Citations and Hotline Section (CHS) is seeking a motivated Air Resources Technician II. Under close supervision of an Air Resources Supervisor I and a team of technical staff, the incumbent will assist technical enforcement staff with more complex and difficult duties and perform various tasks associated with:  Review and process citation packages for consistency with regulations, required registrations, and demonstrations of compliance including the evaluation of appropriate emission control technology types.  Perform audits of private and public records on compliance with emission control regulation; including, but not limited to, ARB’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Plan.  Audits include gathering, entering, compiling and analyzing data and records into searchable spreadsheets, and where appropriate, present findings to management or lead-staff.  Assist with research and prepare segments of clear and concise technical reports, correspondence, documentation relating to air pollution and assist with other air quality and vehicle emission control special project assignments.  While conducting certain inspections, the incumbent will be working at elevated heights or near fast moving machinery or traffic.  Defensive Driving Training and a valid California driver’s license is required.  The incumbent must receive an approval through DMV Pull Notice or through ASD to drive on State business and perform the following duties:  Attend off-site meetings, training, and conferences.  Some travel is required.
