Children's Health Study (CHS) Sites: October 2003 Fire - Lake Arrowhead

This page updated September 7, 2010.

Below is a data plot of PM10 mass data for the Lake Arrowhead CHS site from October 20 to November 1.
The Lake Arrowhead CHS air monitoring station is located at the Rim of the World High School. At the Lake Arrowhead CHS air monitoring station, the PM10 mass data shows the smoke from the Padua and Grand Prix fires being blown by the onshore winds up the back of the Los Angeles basin and into the Lake Arrowhead area. The Padua and the Grand Prix fires both started on October 21. On October 23, the Santa Ana wind conditions blew the smoke back out toward the ocean. The "Old" fire burned up to the Rim of the World High School and was contained when the cold front blew in and the rain and snow began to fall. The power failed when the fire burned through the power lines late on October 25. The site was restored to full operation as soon as the power was restored to the Lake Arrowhead area on November 4.
