Advisory Committee on Alternatives to Rice Straw Burning

The Advisory Committee on Alternatives to Rice Straw Burning was created by the Connelly-Areias-Chandler Rice Straw Burning Reduction Act of 1991. The Committee, which meets annually, has developed a list of priority goals for the development of alternatives to rice straw burning. These goals are contained in a series of reports that were released in 1995, 1997, and 2001.
The ten members of the committee consist of:
- Rice Growers (2)
- Environmental Community Representatives (2)
- Health Officials (2)
- County Supervisors or their Designees (2)
- Air Pollution Control Council Representative (1)
- Business Community Representative (1)
In addition, staff from the Air Resources Board and the California Department of Food and Agriculture serve as technical support.
