Multimedia Chrome Plating Project

This page last reviewed June 11, 2015

The final report on the Multimedia Chrome Plating Project was released to the participating agencies during January of 2001. This pilot project was coordinated by the Compliance Division and reflects the work done by Cal/EPA staff (DTSC, SWRCB, RWQCB), in cooperation with U.S. EPA, Region IX, and a large number of local agencies. The study involved inspection of 37 chrome plating operations in the Los Angeles area in a multi-program fashion by incorporating representatives from appropriate State and local agencies into inspections where compliance with all media (air, hazardous waste, water), could be documented during a single visit.

The chrome-plating project is significant because it marks one of the first times in California that a source category has been studied from a multimedia perspective in a systematic manner. It is our hope that studies of this type will enhance multimedia enforcement coordination and compliance assistance among Cal/EPA agencies.
